Having a baby?

It is important to get the medical care you need. Our Maternity Program offers care for all stages of pregnancy. This comes at no extra cost to you. Our team of care coordinators, social workers, and nurses are here by your side.

Our Maternity Program
The Blue Shield of California Promise Maternity Program helps you:
Get prepared

We can help you preparing for your new baby. We’ll also help after your baby is born (up to 12 months after delivery).

Get care

We help you get care during your pregnancy. This includes specialized care for high-risk pregnancies.

Pregnancy support

We help you get support if you feel sad or worried during your pregnancy. The support continues after your pregnancy. This includes dealing with pregnancy loss.

Family support

We help you manage family planning decisions. This includes other things that affect your health, like having enough food or a safe place to live.

How does it work?

Our team

Our team has maternity nurses, social workers, and care coordinators.

Call us

We’ll ask you questions to learn about your pregnancy status and overall health.

Personalized care

We’ll match you with a nurse, social worker, or care coordinator. They'll provide you with personalized care for your maternity needs. This includes:

  • Working with your doctors. They'll help you get referrals, a doula, important check-ups, and other services you need.
  • Finding help for your pregnancy. This can be birth classes, education materials, and healthy eating tips.
  • Care management if you have a pregnancy that is harder to manage or has more risks, we can help care for you and your baby

Follow-up

We'll check in with you monthly (or as needed). You can stay in the program for up to 12 months after your baby is born.

Call the Blue Shield Promise Maternity Care Management team at 888-802-4410 (TTY:711) to connect with the maternity care team. We are here from 8 am to 5 pm, Pacific Time, Monday through Friday.

Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)

You may qualify for assistance from the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). It is a government program that helps you get healthy food. It’s for you and your baby.

The Maternity Program team can help you understand how to apply for WIC, teach you about the benefits, and show you how to find local WIC offices or use online resources. By helping families join WIC, we want to make sure moms and babies get healthy food, learn how to stay healthy, and grow strong together.

Ask your provider how to sign up. There is no cost. You can learn more about WIC online. Call California WIC toll-free at (888) 942-9675.
